Any tips for smoother transitions? My 5-year-old gets really upset when it’s time to stop a preferred activity, and I’m looking for ideas that actually work.

What you’ll find here are the things that helped us through it: real tips, honest tricks, and the quiet truths we wish someone had handed us at the beginning.

a note before we begin

Friend, I'm so glad you're here.

We're not doctors. We're not experts.

We're just parents who had no roadmap and no help — parents who spent hours researching late at night, trying to figure out what was happening with our child.

What you'll find here are the things that helped us through it: printable PDFs for at-home activities, real tips, honest tricks, and the quiet truths we wish someone had handed us at the beginning.

It doesn't matter if you're a mom, a dad, a grandparent, an aunt, a foster parent, or the village standing beside one. If you love this child — this is for you.

Knowledge is power. Sharing our experiences only spreads it further.

We hope this is helpful.

LEARNING MY CHILD

The Parent Circle

Real parents. Real conversations. No judgment.

Does anyone else\'s child whisper instead of speaking at their usual volume?

Curious if other parents have noticed this. Does it happen during play, when they are excited, or at random times?

QT
QuietThunder7· 1h

Yes! Mine does this before falling asleep. Almost like he is talking to himself but wants nobody else to hear.

CM
CozyMoose11· 2h

Ours whispers when he is overstimulated. OT said it is self-regulation. Made so much sense once we noticed.

What is one tiny win you celebrated this week?

It does not have to be a traditional milestone. Sometimes the smallest moments mean everything.

First unprompted “mama” at 4 years old. Sobbing happy tears over the Cheerios.

He pointed to the fridge instead of leading me there. PECS card season paying off.

Brushed her teeth without the timer song today. We have been working on this for TWO YEARS.

Does anyone else\'s child need to hear the same song 500 times?

What is the song your household knows by heart now?

Baby Shark. We are on year three. I hear it in my dreams.

The Wiggles “Hot Potato.” My husband sings it in his sleep now.

Hard IEP meeting today. Did not get the accommodation I asked for.

Looking for commiseration more than solutions right now. Just need to be seen by people who get it.

Seeing you. Been there this fall. Rest tonight. The advocacy keeps. Hugs.

You showed up. You advocated. That matters whether or not they heard you today.

Mail them a follow-up in writing tomorrow. In the meantime: pizza, pajamas, zero guilt.

Echolalia breakthrough — anyone else?

We thought it was just repetition for months. Then I realized he was asking for the things in the phrases. Mind blown.

GG
GentleGiraffe42· 2h

YES. “Do you want a snack?” = “I want a snack.” Took us a year to catch on.

Build Your Child's PECS Book

A custom communication book — designed around the things your child loves and asks for every day. We design it. We print it. We mail it.

My voice. My way. My book.

PECS Book example
Every PECS Book Includes

26 communication cards. Built in.

The base book ships with the foundation cards every child needs — the language for asking, naming, and saying yes, no, and "I'm done." This is what helps a child build from 1–2 word requests to 3–4 word sentences.

I want drink · snack · toy · more
I see dog · ball · book · outside
I need help · bathroom · break · hug
I feel happy · sad · mad · tired
Questions what? · where? · who? · why?
Quick replies all done · yes · no · I don't know

Plus the items YOU upload — the toys, snacks, books, Play-Doh, blocks, the specific things your child reaches for and asks for every day. That's what makes it theirs.

Choose Your Tier

How many custom items?

$30

$50
Full Book
  • 26 standard communication cards
  • 10 custom item cards you upload
  • Spiral-bound, laminated, ring-bound
  • Printed and mailed to your door
  • More options to expand from "I want toy" → "I want the red car"
Best for: a child who's already pointing or making 1–2 word requests.
Build Your Book

Tell us about your child's favorites.

Choose items your child constantly requests — the toys, foods, Play-Doh, blocks, snacks, books, comfort items they reach for every single day. The more specific, the better.

Upload your child's items 0 / 5

For each slot: upload a clear photo of the item, then give it a title (what your child calls it) and a short description (what they use it for).

No payment yet. After we receive your photos, we'll send a proof for your approval before any charge.

Got it! We have your order.

Here's what happens next:

  1. We'll email you a proof of your PECS book and the custom item cards within 2–3 business days.
  2. Once you approve the proof, we begin printing and binding your book.
  3. We'll notify you when your book is ready to ship.
  4. Just before shipping, you'll receive an invoice via email.
  5. Your book will be on its way as soon as the invoice is paid.

Thank you for trusting us with this. Your child's voice matters — we'll do this right.
